Relief support for flood affected families
The relief support provided by FAsCE India to the flood affected families in the slums of Satgaon - Narengi, Guwahati, on Dec 7, 2014, descended into their lives as gentle sun on a winter morning. The long queue before the registration counter at FAsCE India head office that day spread an air of joy, consolation and respite emanating from the hearts of people gathered to receive the relief kits.

Containing woollen blanket, mosquito net, bleaching powder, detergents and note books, the kits reflected an answer to the genuine need of the people emerging from a month-long survey and analysis done by the organisation with the help of interns from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati.

One hundred and seventy five families from the aforementioned slums, who were left in the lurch after the recent floods losing their valuable belongings of basic necessity, received relief kits provided by FAsCE India. Rev Fr George Panthanmackel, msfs, the provincial of Northeast India and the chief guest of the day, along with Rev Fr George Poovathunkal, msfs, the principal of SFS School Narengi, the guest of honour, distributed the relief kits to the beneficiaries.

Women walking out with brightened faces and children holding the kits close to their chests told a tale of ‘lost and found’ and were sights worth beholding. The relief support came as a respite for the people who had lost many of their belongings with the flood including note books and warm clothes.

Addressing the gathering, Fr Emmanuel Mappilaparambil, msfs, the executive director, reiterated that FAsCE India is committed to the social development of the people around. “This is a Christmas gift to all of you,” he said, “feeling one with you after the example of Jesus Christ, who became one with human beings.”

Fr Panthanmackel appreciated the FAsCE India team for their dedicated service towards the upliftment of the people around, especially the poor.
